TOLLAND – Rep. Tammy Nuccio, R-Tolland, will partner with experts on domestic violence and local leaders to host a forum dedicated to a discussion and resource sharing about the life altering, and in some cases, lethal crime of domestic and intimate partner violence.

Rep. Nuccio, was recently appointed to the Domestic Violence Criminal Justice Response and Enhancement Advisory Council by House Republican Leader Vincent Candelora, felt it was important to address incidents that continue to raise alarm among advocates.

On Jan. 17 at Tolland Town Hall (21 Tolland Green) at 6 p.m., Rep. Nuccio will join Tolland Town Manager Brian Foley, Meghan Scanlon, President & CEO of Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Karen O’Connor, CEO of The Network Against Domestic Abuse, and Mary-Jane Foster, President and CEO of The Interval House.

A Webinar component will be part of the forum, which will provide attendees the opportunity to participate anonymously.

“Incidents involving physical violence are increasing, but this isn’t just about statistics, it’s about the devastating effect that domestic violence has on families and the long-term consequences that can last generations,” Rep. Tammy Nuccio said. “We’re hoping to share resources and connect people to the help they need to escape potentially dangerous situations that can have life-altering consequences on mental health, family life and the ability to hold a job. This forum is for anyone who is in search of help and is looking for answers.”

In 2021, there were 16,149 family violence incidents reported that involved 33,893 people. There were 27 family violence homicide incidents during that same year resulting in 36 deaths; 29 victims and seven offender suicides. Though females were victims in nearly 63 percent of all offenses, males were also the victim in 37 percent of all offenses, according to the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, which compiled the data. Victims have ranged in age from 11 months old to 77 years old, while offenders ranged in age from 20 years old to 80 years old.

Please join the panelists for a discussion about these, and other aspects of domestic violence that are affecting the lives of Connecticut residents.
