Discussion Touched On Manufacturing Policy, Workforce Training Initiatives and Incentives to Promote COVID-19 Vaccinations

TOLLAND COUNTY, Conn. — With Connecticut’s business community facing an uncertain forecast for the coming year, State Representative Tammy Nuccio recently invited guests from the Connecticut Business and Industry Association (CBIA) to October’s Business Advisory Council meeting for a policy update.

The discussion touched on challenges for the business community — as shown by a recent NFIB survey of small businesses with growing concerns about supply chain and hiring issues — as well as what state government can do to help businesses bounce back.

The continuing implementation of the state’s Paid Family Medical Leave (PFML) program was also in focus. The PFML program, funded by a mandatory 0.5% payroll tax on employers, can begin paying out paid leave benefits to eligible workers starting in January 2022. Click here for more info.

Rep. Nuccio, Wyatt Bosworth (Assistant Counsel for CBIA) and Ashley Zane (Government Affairs Associate, CBIA) also noted how many businesses have begun utilizing wellness-based incentives, like discounts on employees’ group health insurance, to encourage more employees to get vaccinated against COVID-19.  The presentation slide deck includes important actuarial and regulatory guidance for employers contemplating a similar policy.
