Nuccio Supports Legislation Equalizing Health Care Disparities in Connecticut

HARTFORD — State Representative Tammy Nuccio (R-53rd) recently cast her vote in favor of a bill to examine disparities in access to mental, behavioral and physical health care in response to the COVID pandemic.
Senate Bill 1, which was approved by the House on Tuesday, would:
- Require DPH’s Maternal Mortality Review Committee to annually report its findings to inform legislative action on the issue;
- Convene a full assessment of the state’s pandemic response;
- Require the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services to make mobile crisis services available 24 hours a day, seven days a week;
- And convene legislative, public health and community leaders to confront worsening violent crime in Connecticut communities.
“Greater access to health care services is such a critical need for our residents, especially after this pandemic, and I’ve been supportive of fiscally-neutral policies like expanded telehealth coverage and a state mental health task force to meet that need,” Nuccio said. “I am pleased to report that this bill makes complementary, data-driven investments towards encouraging preventive care, embracing mobile delivery of crisis intervention services, and improving our public health data collection efforts.”
“Throughout this pandemic we have seen how people have been disparately impacted by COVID-19, especially lower income people and people of color. Understanding why is key to bridging those gaps and ensuring everyone has equal access to healthcare,” Nuccio continued.
“The past year has also seen a disturbing rise in reported crimes across all zip codes,” Nuccio concluded. “While it’s absolutely necessary to have greater coordination through the Gun Violence Working Committee, I remain firm in my stance that we also need added tools for our courts and law enforcement to protect the victims of these crimes.”
