Connecticut Legislators to Host Forum for Connecticut’s Homeschooling Families

TOLLAND, CT – State Representatives Tammy Nuccio (R-Tolland), Tim Ackert (Coventry), Anne Dauphinais (Killingly), Lezlye Zupkus (Prospect) and Sen. Jeff Gordon (Woodstock) will host a Homeschooling Forum for students and parents on Monday, August 18 at 6:00 p.m. at the Tolland Senior Center, providing families with a direct opportunity to ask questions, voice concerns, and receive updates on legislation that could impact the homeschooling community.
“This past session, the majority party made it clear they want more control over how families educate their children—especially those who choose to homeschool. We saw repeated efforts to impose new regulations and mandates on parents, many of whom chose this path to get away from bureaucratic interference in the first place,” Rep. Nuccio said. “Unlike those behind the scenes pushing mandates and silencing families, we believe parents deserve to be heard—not sidelined. This forum is about
transparency, accountability, and respect for families who make the decision to homeschool. We’re here to listen, answer questions, and stand up for your rights.”
The forum will feature legislators who have stood against proposals to regulate homeschoolers. Attendees will have the chance to engage directly with lawmakers—something they’ve been largely denied by the majority party, which has chosen to hold closed working groups without public input rather than open
forums where parents can speak for themselves. The legislators want to hear the concerns of the homeschooling community, including directly from homeschooled students.
“When I saw roughly two thousand homeschooling families and children come to the State Capitol to share their voice, I knew they deserved advocates in Hartford to defend against government overreach and intrusive mandates. It’s important to know that these are families from all political backgrounds who equally believe their rights and freedoms to homeschool their children are at risk,” Rep. Ackert said. “This forum offers a community of support to these families and invites all advocates and critics to the table so that we can have a fruitful discussion that protects the interests of homeschoolers and the safety of our children.”
