Wolcott Legislators Discuss Individual Freedoms with Local Residents
WOLCOTT – Over thirty residents packed into the Wolcott Town Hall on Monday night to hear from State Senator Rob Sampson (R-16) and State Rep. Gale Mastrofrancesco (R-80) to discuss the major issues that shaped the 2019 legislative session and what issues they plan to debate in next year’s session.
Many residents in attendance expressed their deep concern with the increased government intrusion into their lives.
Both Sampson and Mastrofrancesco agreed that our constitutional freedoms are in real danger by the overwhelming democrat majority in the General Assembly and vowed to fight for individual rights and liberty.
The lawmakers also said they are working to foster policies that strengthen the economic climate of Connecticut by opposing burdensome tax hikes on families and state businesses. Reducing onerous regulations on businesses and prioritizing how the state spends the tax dollars of residents is a priority.
Sampson and Mastrofrancesco mentioned how in recent years the tactic has been to use tax policy to push a deserved behavior, like a bag tax or a sugar tax.
Rep. Mastrofrancesco said, “As legislators, these town hall meetings allow us to hear from our constituents and share with them what we are doing in Hartford. We will continue to push for lower taxes and the elimination of wasteful spending. Many thanks to everyone who came out! We heard you loud and clear and will continue to work tirelessly on your behalf at the State Capitol.”
“I am always recharged when meeting with people at our town hall meetings,” said Sen. Sampson. “Their common sense is a good break from what we usually hear in Hartford. People are definitely concerned about rising taxes and further infringements on their personal liberty. They are also very appreciative of our efforts to push back on the overwhelming Democratic majority and want to help us educate our friends and neighbors on restoring the principles of freedom and opportunity that made America great and are often missing from the political conversation on the state and federal level.”
The 2020 legislative session begins on February 5th and ends on May 6th.
