Mastrofrancesco Talks State Government with Southington High Students

SOUTHINGTON—  State Representative Gale Mastrofrancesco (R-80) went back to school recently, but instead of studying for exams she spent some time explaining the role of state  representatives in the Connecticut legislature to Mr. Tuttle’s Senior AP Government and Politics class.

Rep. Mastrofrancesco spoke to students in Mr. Tuttle’s class and answered numerous questions on topics including current and proposed state law, the proposal to forced school districts to regionalize, the proposal to raise the minimum wage, the use of police body cameras, defending the rule of law and the Constitution when certain pieces of legislation aim to strip away our rights, and finally a discussion on civility at the State Capitol.

“It’s great to be able to talk with students and answer their questions directly,” Rep. Mastrofrancesco said. “Students don’t always feel they’re taken seriously and judging by the questions they asked they’re very concerned with the laws we pass in Hartford, laws that directly affect them. I am encouraged with their thoughtfulness and introspection on the issues.”
