Legislators Meet with Wolcott Seniors
WOLCOTT – State Rep. Gale Mastrofrancesco (R-80) and State Sen. Rob Sampson (R-16) were invited to speak by the Wolcott Senior Center to provide a legislative update on the issues near and dear to Wolcott seniors. Both Wolcott legislators joined dozens of energized seniors and guests to review the 2019 legislative session.
“It was great to be so welcomed by this important and often under-represented part of our community,” said Mastrofrancesco. “Almost every policy passed in Hartford last session will make it harder for seniors to live in Connecticut. Our seniors need to know that we are fighting to keep their community affordable especially seniors living on fixed incomes and can’t keep paying for more and more taxes.”
“It’s always great to speak with the citizens of Wolcott,” said Senator Sampson. “Along with everyone else, seniors are definitely concerned with the ever rising cost of living in our state. We did accomplish some good things this past session but sadly, the focus is likely to remain on burdensome new taxes, anti-business regulation, and the dangerous super-sanctuary state policy that passed despite my loud objections last session. It seems that Connecticut keeps taking steps in the wrong direction. I want them to know they can count on me and Rep. Mastrofrancesco to keep pushing back on Governor Lamont and advocating for less taxes and more freedom.”
Issues discussed during the hour conversation ranged from the state’s role in enforcing our federal immigrant law, high state taxes, items that used to be untaxed, that will now be taxable, government spending priorities and their thoughts about the economic impact of tolls on our state highways.
