Rep. Marra to Host Discussion on Proposed Special Education Bills

State Representative Tracy Marra (R-141) today announced she will be hosting a community discussion in response to two special education bills, HB 7277 and SB 1561, that received a public hearing before the legislature’s Select Committee on Special Education on Monday. Despite having both a House and Senate designation, the language is the same for each bill.
House Republicans have been pressing for increased support for students with special needs, including proposals this session to increase funding by $108 million.
Rep. Marra organized the community discussion to gather input from residents who may not have had a chance to testify during the public hearing. Like most legislation, these bills have both positives and negatives, and Rep. Marra will relay local concerns to the Committee chairs and caucus leadership.
“Making sure our most vulnerable students are being provided with the best possible access to educational resources needs to be a much greater priority,” Rep. Marra said. “With Friday’s discussion, I’m hoping to gather input directly from residents who will be impacted by these bills, and to allow them to voice their concerns in a comfortable format that doesn’t limit discussion to just three minutes like the legislative committee process does.”
If you’d like to discuss these proposals and share your concerns, please join Rep. Marra on Friday, May 2, 2025, in the Heron Room at the Darien Public Library. The discussion will begin promptly at 9 a.m.
