Rep. Marra Endorses Signature Energy Reform Legislation

State Representative Tracy Marra (R-141) tonight voted in support of a signature energy bill that is expected to move ratepayer bills in the right direction – finally – down!
Senate Bill 4 is a comprehensive plan that creates real savings of more than $100 million in the public benefits, places $100 million of Covid debt on bond, and securitizes storm costs which is projected to save about $90 million off the bill providing an overall decrease of about $300 million from ratepayers’ bills.
Rep. Marra cautioned that while a step forward “this is not knocking it out of the park and there is much more work to do.” Still, she said this bill should provide a reduction of about $15 per month for ratepayers.
“Helping struggling ratepayers by reducing energy bills is critical,” Rep. Marra, Ranking Member of the Energy & Technology Committee said. “This is a good step towards finally getting our state’s energy costs under control but does fall a bit short of the truly comprehensive reform I would have preferred.”
This bill also requires the Office of Consumer Council (OCC) to study the public benefits charges. Rep. Marra noted that a full audit of this section will continue to make the state more affordable.
“We talk about affordability every day in this building, focusing on bringing down our energy bill will affect the cost of living in our state. This is a priority that we need to continue pushing!” Rep. Marra said.
