State Rep. Tracy Marra was joined by Rep. Dominique Johnson and Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz for a recent behind-the-scenes tour of The Maritime Aquarium of Norwalk.

The lawmakers were visiting the aquarium to promote Connecticut’s Summer at the Museum 2023 program that provides free admission to children when accompanied by a paid adult between July 1st and September 4th.

The health and safety of both animals and guests takes the highest priority, and President and CEO Jason Patlis explained how they operate and how the animals are cared for, including showing the water filtration systems that continuously refresh the water in each exhibit.   In one large tank he said more than 150,000 gallons of water is exchanged every 80 minutes!

During the tour, the special guests even got the opportunity to meet and feed the Aquarium’s latest addition, the recently born seal pup, Sono!   Sono, his mother Gracie, and their friends were swimming and playing in Pinniped Cove.

Visitors can also explore the Journeys with Jellies and Meerkat exhibits, schedule an animal encounter, watch seal feedings, listen during story time, as well as put their hands on a sturgeon or ray in one of the touch tanks.
