State Representative Tracy Marra (R-141) today applauded the state Bond Commission’s anticipated allocation of nearly $7 million for several local projects, including redevelopment of pedestrian infrastructure, the arts, and support for charter schools during their upcoming scheduled meeting later this week.

The state Bond Commission is scheduled to meet on Friday, June 7th and expected to allocate substantial funding for hundreds of state projects, including more than $3.4 million to the Norwalk Housing Authority for replacement of 54 units of obsolete affordable housing; $3 million to the Norwalk Redevelopment Agency for South Norwalk Streetscape Improvements; $300,000 for the Music Theater of Connecticut in Norwalk; and more than $268,000 for electrical and air conditioning upgrades, staff room renovations, and exterior doors, flooring replacement at Norwalk’s Side By Side Charter School.

“This is wonderful news for Norwalk and these funds will be used to benefit the whole community with new, affordable housing options, safer roadways, sidewalks and pedestrian infrastructure, access to the arts, and most importantly, upgrades to Side-by-Side Charter School to provide the best possible learning environment for our children,” Rep. Marra said. “I want to thank the governor and members of the Bond Commission for recognizing the need for these investments and supporting Norwalk’s residents and students.”

According to the Office of the Comptroller, the State Bond Commission is a ten-member body empowered to allocate bond funds to finance specific projects and purposes. Membership includes the governor, three state constitutional officers, four state legislators and two state agency heads.
