Rep. Marra voted in support of a measure to restrict data collection, algorithm personalization, and unlimited access to minor children by social media companies.
Like drugs and alcohol, social media can be addictive, and Rep. Marra said she was pleased this measure will move forward to the Senate and hopefully garner the governor’s signature. House Bill 6857 establishes age verifications for minors and provides for more parental oversight, severely restricts social media providers from using its algorithms to target minor children and prevents contact with those minors to one specific hour per day.
She said, while not perfect, this legislation takes a large step in the right direction of protecting our children from the dangers of prolonged social media use and targeted content and advertising which can be dangerous or damaging to minors.
