State Representative Tracy Marra celebrated Read Across America Day by reading to students in two classes at Tokeneke Elementary School on Wednesday, March 29th.
She read “Not Quite Narwhal” by Jessie Sima, and “The Snail and the Whale” by Julia Donaldson. Before starting the books, she took a few minutes to discuss how our state legislature works and how decisions made in Hartford affect Connecticut residents, including the students.
Read Across America Day is a nationwide reading celebration that traditionally takes place in March with the goal of sharing the joy of reading and promote early childhood literacy with elementary schoolers.
According to its website, The National Education Association seeks to build a nation of readers through its signature program, NEA’s Read Across America. For more information about this great event please visit www.nea.org/readacross.
