Public Hearing on SB122 Monday morning; HB5108 coming up

These public hearings pop up fast!
There is an Environment Committee public hearing on Monday for SB122 – An Act Concerning the Replanting of Trees in Public Areas Cleared by Utility Companies.
This bill will require certain Energy companies (Eversource, UI, etc.) to establish a fund to cover the cost to replant trees removed by the company. This is a big issue in our community right now, and anyone who drives down Littlebrook Road or along the Metro North Line can see a huge amount of tree loss. I know that as a town you have worked hard to stop this and you have had your hands tied in many ways as this was a state issue, too. Please let your voice be heard.

A similar bill I proposed will have a future Public Hearing in the Energy and Technology Committee. Right now, no date has been set.
My proposal, HB 5108 – An Act Concerning the Process for Objecting to Actions Taken by Utility Companies Pursuant to a Vegetation Management Plan will give property owners additional time to file objections to a utility company’s vegetation management plan involving trees on private property and will streamline the objection process.
