As you may have heard, as of today vehicles entering the new “Congestion Relief Zone” in Manhattan – local streets and avenues at or below 60 St – will be charged a toll.
The toll amount will depend on the type of vehicle, time of day, whether any crossing credits apply, and the method of payment. Most vehicles with E-ZPass will be charged $9 in the peak period or $2.25 overnight, once daily. Other vehicles will be charged by mail.
The good news is that you may qualify for a discount or exemption from the Congestion Relief Zone toll. Currently, the least expensive way to travel below 60th street is by public transportation.
Individuals can apply for the Low-Income Discount Plan or the Individual Disability Exemption Plan, regardless of where they live. For more information about eligibility and applications, please visit mta.info/discounts.
