The Public Safety & Security Committee has released the latest Public Hearing Agenda for March 5th, and my bill, S.B. 373- An Act Allowing a Personal Income Tax Deduction for Stipends Paid to Volunteer Firefighters, Volunteer Fire Police Officers and Volunteer Ambulance Members, will be heard.
This concept would exempt the first $2,000 in stipends for volunteer firefighters, fire police, and EMT personnel in Connecticut. The concept has had far-reaching bipartisan support in past sessions, and with the state's volunteer responder enrollment declining across the state, the hope is that this potential legislation would help maintain current enrollment and add additional incentive for recruitment in the future.
