This past weekend, I had a wonderful visit to Maple Lane Farms in Preston. With the Christmas season upon us, tree sales take the spotlight on the farm. The average height for a standard tree is about 6-7 feet tall, and once a tree is planted it usually takes on average about 7-8 years to mature and fully grow to that height. Often, when they replant the trees, new trees are planted in between the stumps of trees that have been recently cut down. That’s more of a way to utilize the most space possible on the farm.
They also grow lettuce, which they package themselves and distribute them to local supermarkets. There wedding hall is another attraction on the property where they host about 20 weddings a year, as well as an old colonial house that they rent out as an inn. Allyn Brown, who is the owner of Maple Lane Farms, gave us a wonderful tour of this impressive, 325-acre farm, that has been in operation since 1978.
For the Christmas season, they are open 9:00am-4:30pm on Saturdays and Sundays, with this upcoming weekend being the last weekend they will be open for the season. If you are late getting your Christmas tree this year, I encourage you to give Maple Lane, and other local tree farms a visit to support our neighbors and local economy. Thank you, Allyn, for your time, and everything you do for our area!
Maple Lane Farms is located at 57 NW Corner Road in Preston.
