Ledyard High School Civics in Action

On Thursday, I had the pleasure for the second year in a row now to join the Civics in Action event at Ledyard High School. I met with several groups of tenth grade students and multiple topics came up that were important to the students.

Topics ranged from environmental issues such as climate change and waste reduction, lowering the cost of health insurance and greater access to healthcare, to gun issues such as castle doctrine and combatting gun violence, and how to help those in our community

Preston: Maple Lane Farms Visit

This past weekend, I had a wonderful visit to Maple Lane Farms in Preston. With the Christmas season upon us, tree sales take the spotlight on the farm. The average height for a standard tree is about 6-7 feet tall, and once a tree is planted it usually takes on average about 7-8 years to mature and fully grow to that height. Often, when they replant the trees, new trees are planted in between the stumps of trees that have been recently cut down. That’s more of a way to utilize the most space possible

Lisbon: Saturday Food Drive a Success to Help Those In Need

On Saturday, there was a great turnout at the food drive at Adams Market (Better Val-U) in Lisbon. The United Way of Southeastern Connecticut was accepting food and cash donations to help those in our community that are in need.

Thank you to the Boy Scouts Troop 73, the Gemma Moran Food Center, K Hits 100.9 FM, the Jewett City Savings Bank and Adams Market for the great team effort supporting our communities. The Gemma Moran Food Center has grown over the years and is considered the hub of food banks
