Ledyard High School Civics in Action

Key Takeaways

  • Rep. Lanoue Attends the Yearly Civic in Action Event at Ledyard High School

It was a pleasure to participate in the Civics in Action event at Ledyard High School. I had the opportunity to meet with several groups of students, and we discussed a range of issues that matter deeply to them. As always, hearing directly from young people about their thoughts and priorities is very enlightening.

Our conversations covered animal welfare, including overcrowding in local shelters and the importance of responsible screening for prospective pet owners. Students also raised concerns about DCF reform—particularly adoption rates, the rate of children being returned, and children reported missing from care- which is beyond disturbing.

We spoke about the impact of “forever chemicals” such as PFAS and PFOS on our water and soil, as well as discussing renewable energy solutions, including wind and solar, and exploring their use in everyday life, as well.

I am grateful to Seth Galante and the entire staff at Ledyard High School for their warm hospitality and for continuing to host these interactive events.
