With the Christmas season rapidly approaching, it was time to take the trip over to Voluntown, to visit the Hartikka Tree Farm located at 262 Wylie School Road. David Hartikka and his family have been taking care of this beautiful tree farm for 70 years, first established by his father, Arnold Hartikka, in 1955. The farm is home to nine different types of trees, mainly consisting of fir and spruce trees of different shapes and sizes, in order to meet the various preferences of customers that come to the farm after Thanksgiving.

The trees here on this farm are beautiful and it is all because of the hard work David and his staff put into these trees year-round. Different soils and fertilizers are used to keep these trees looking their best, but it takes far more than that to get them ready for their eventual purchase. The trees undergo sheering and trimming yearly to get them ready to bring home. When all is said and done, the trees look sensational. I encourage you to browse the photos we have posted along with this story so you can see the amazing results for yourself.

If you are interested in visiting Hartikka Tree Farm, you will need to hurry! They close for the season this coming Saturday and will be open daily from 10:00am to 4:30pm. I would like to thank David for taking the time to show me around this amazing tree farm!
