Cole Houghton Eagle Scout Ceremony

I had the opportunity to come together with our community to celebrate the success of another Eagle Scout here in the 45th District! On Wednesday evening in Preston, Cole Houghton was the latest scout to earn this prestigious accomplishment after putting in significant time and hard work.

 Joining in March of 2022, Cole was able to make his way through the ranks of Scouting of America while contributing 398 hours of community service, which earned him the leadership distinctions of Quartermaster and, eventually, Senior Patrol Leader. His time and effort has paid off, earning an impressive 37 merit badges, all of which are a requirement to earning the title of Eagle Scout. 

 His Eagle Scout project, which is another requirement, was completed this past April and May, removing debris, cleaning up trash, and working to improve the overall condition of the Preston Community Park Trail system. In addition to all who can now enjoy the outdoors on this trail, the Preston Plains Middle School Cross-Country Team has been using the revamped trail for training, which helped lead them to a state championship this fall.

Here are some other facts about Cole and his journey:

•    Earned the Bronze, Silver, and Gold, Eagle Palms  

•    Hiked the Appalachian Trail  

•    Participated in a 50-mile cycling expedition across New Hampshire and Vermont  

•    Earned Merit Badges including citizenship, emergency preparedness, hiking, cycling, and more  

Cole’s selfless work and dedication to our community has not just made him an Eagle Scout, but a leader in our area. Over the past several years, I have had the opportunity to attend these ceremonies, and I cannot tell you enough how impressed I am with all these young people who achieve this award. I want to thank the Preston Scout Troop 75 for including me in Eagle Scout ceremonies and all that they do for the youth in our area.
