State Representative Brian Lanoue Enthusiastically Speaks in Favor of Pro Jobs Amendment

Key Takeaways
- Rep. Lanoue advocates for exemption on tips and overtime pay
- Amendment fails on party line vote
On Thursday, I supported House Republican amendment LCO 742 that would have helped many people in our state. This amendment, similar to a bill I introduced last year (HB 5024), would have exempted tips and overtime pay from CT state taxes. Unfortunately, the amendment failed on party lines.
This was a missed opportunity for our state to better position ourselves to capture more of the new investment that is expected to come into our country. At a time when we should be making it more attractive to live and work here, we passed on a chance to let hardworking people keep more of what they earn, reward those willing to pick up extra shifts, and generate future investments for Connecticut’s economy.
