State Representatives  David Labriola (R-131) and Rosa Rebimbas (R-70) today applauded the state’s Bond Commission for approving a $317,500 grant to the Naugatuck YMCA.

The grant will assist with design and construction of renovations to the pool area and pool building, and renovations to the gym and office areas.

“The YMCA is a vital community resource and this grant money will be put to good use by hundreds of people who utilize the pool and gym facilities each year,” Rep. Rebimbas said. “Investment in the physical well-being of our community pays back in immeasurable ways and I’m pleased this grant will allow the YMCA to continue their good work.”

“This is great news for the people of Naugatuck who take advantage of the wonderful YMCA facilities,” Rep. Labriola said. “Having a modern workout and pool facility in the downtown area encourages fitness and this grant will go a long way toward the goal of keeping Naugatuck’s citizens healthy.”

According to their Website, the Naugatuck YMCA is a character-building membership association that serves the community by providing programs that enrich the spirit, mind and body. The door is open to families of all shapes, sizes, races, religions and incomes. Whether it’s through aquatics, exercise programs or youth sports, the Naugatuck YMCA gives families a chance to spend good time together. Something as simple as splashing around in the pool or playing some basketball together can reap lasting benefits, as parents and kids learn how to care for and communicate with each other.
