According to the American Red Cross, blood donations decline during the holiday season due to harsh winter weather and holiday travel and festivities. But the necessity for blood is ever crucial.

Currently, the most needed blood types are O negative, A negative and B negative. However, Naugatuck donors of all blood types are encouraged to visit the Red Cross Blood drive at the Naugatuck Portuguese Club, 110 Rubber Avenue, on Tuesday, December 2nd from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

“Our community is so generous, and the support shown to families in need is heartwarming,” said Rep. Labriola (R-131). “I hope December 2nd will be an example of such generosity, as this a wonderful opportunity to give someone the best gift imaginable.”

Individuals must be at least 17 years of age, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in generally good health to be eligible to donate blood. A blood donor card or driver’s license, or two other forms of identification, will be required.

To learn more about donating blood and to schedule an appointment, download the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
