Legislators Raise More Than $5,000

NAUGATUCKState Representatives Rosa C. Rebimbas (R-70) and David Labriola (R-131) rang the holiday bell for the Salvation Army outside the Naugatuck Wal-Mart and in just one hour, raised $5,144 that will go to local families in need.

“Each and every donation we received will help local families in need and I want to thank everyone who stopped by and donated to the Salvation Army,” Rep. Rebimbas said. “Naugatuck has always been a generous and giving community and I am pleased we were able to help the Salvation Army with their mission to assist others, especially during the holiday season.”

“It is truly the generosity of Naugatuck residents that makes our bell ringing event a success each year” Rep. Labriola said. “Thank you to all our friends and neighbors for their donations to those in need.”

This isn’t the first year the legislators joined in on the annual holiday tradition – or with other community service organizations. Since 2009, the House Republicans, including Reps. Rebimbas and Labriola, have raised more than $141,513 for The Salvation Army.

This year, Wal-Mart will generously match all donations collected by House Republican lawmakers dollar-for-dollar, up to a maximum of $25,000. Because the caucus has collectively raised upwards of $41,000, Wal-Mart has already made their donation of $25,000 to the salvation army with several bell ringing events left to go before the end of the year.

Anyone who missed the event can still donate to the Salvation Army by visiting http://donate.salvationarmyusa.org/ and contributing a virtual gift to the red kettle!
