HARTFORD – State Representatives Rosa C. Rebimbas (R-70) and David Labriola (R-131) today announced they are hosting a food drive to benefit the Ecumenical Food Bank.

The one-week event runs from Thursday, September 24 through Thursday, October 1st with all donations going to help local families through the Ecumenical Food Bank. The legislators will also be collecting food and donations at the Naugatuck Senior Center on Thursday, October 1, 2015, between 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.  Monetary donations are also welcome.  Please make checks payable to the Ecumenical Food Bank. They can be mailed to P. O. Box 796, Naugatuck, CT 06770.

In recent years there has been an increased need for assistance. Currently, the food bank serves 740 families and individuals, with new requests for assistance each week. Since January of this year, 140 new families have been served – doubling the number of families who were provided with assistance last year. The Food Bank has served 69,855 meals and 9,928 bags of food so far this year.

“We have very dedicated people who keep our operations running and I can’t thank the people of Naugatuck enough for their continued support of our mission to help those in need,” Marty Fenton, director of the Ecumenical Food Bank, said.

“It is important to assist those who are struggling and the least we can do is to help the Ecumenical Food Bank, and local families in need, by sponsoring this food drive,” Rep. Rebimbas said.

“I’m pleased to join the Naugatuck Food Pantry as we work together to help local families and increase awareness of the needs of our community,” Rep. Labriola said.
