The Connecticut Business and Industry Association (CBIA) – the largest business organization in the state – is recognizing State Representatives Rosa C. Rebimbas (R-70) and David K. Labriola (R-131) for earning a perfect voting record on key bills impacting Connecticut’s economic growth and business climate.

All state lawmakers were scored with a “thumbs up” or “thumbs down” based on their support for the business community’s positions on seven important policies. The bills all have the capacity to affect job creation, small business growth and economic stability in Connecticut.

Some of the bills assessed include the Governor’s budget (SB 1239), the captive audience bill (HB 5460) and a controversial campaign finance reform bill (HB 5556).

“Defending local businesses and working to restore jobs is critically important as folks continue to struggle,” said Rep. Rebimbas. “Unemployment jumped to 8.5 percent last month and families are hurting. Creating jobs and growing small businesses is a legislative priority for me, and I look forward to doing more to promote local business growth in the 2013 Legislative Session.”

“Small businesses are the backbone of our state economy, and helping them succeed is essential to creating stable jobs for middle class families,” said Rep. Labriola.  “I am committed to working in a bipartisan way to help make the state more business friendly by crafting legislation aimed at helping businesses start, stay and grow in Connecticut.”

In addition to their legislative work, Reps. Rebimbas and Labriola have taken active steps locally to promote private sector growth. Recently, the legislators hosted workshops for small businesses about the financial assistance available to them through last October’s bipartisan jobs bill. The bill, which they supported, created programs to help expand and financially support businesses adding new employees, updating equipment and providing better training. They have also toured many local businesses and manufacturers to hear their concerns about the state business climate, and plan to continue this fall.
