State Sen. Rob Kane (R-32) and State Rep. David Labriola (R-131) on Monday applauded the Connecticut Airport Authority for passing a measure to promote economic development near Oxford Airport.

The CAA Board of Directors on Aug. 12 approved a motion to create an Oxford Airport Development Zone to foster new business development, add jobs and generate new municipal and state tax revenues.

“It’s just the type of message we should be sending to the private sector,” Sen. Kane said.   “We’ve got to do all we can to promote economic development and job creation in Connecticut.  The zone’s creation sends a clear, straightforward message to the business community that we are committed to growing jobs.  It’s a positive step, and a welcome one.  We thank state officials for taking this action.”

“This is tremendous news for the people of Oxford and the surrounding area,” Rep. Labriola said. “This creates an engine for economic growth and will allow the airport and the entire region to reach its full potential.”

On Tuesday, Rep. Labriola went on WTIC with John Rowland to discuss the topic even further.  You can LISTEN to a clip here.
