OXFORD – The Malloy administration announced today that Agnes Tetlak Schiavi Park, the proposed one-hundred acre recreational area on Bowers Hill Road, will receive a $500,000 grant to further develop the land for Oxford and surrounding communities’ enjoyment and recreation.

State Rep. David K. Labriola (R-131) and Sen. Rob Kane (R-32) touted the Small Towns Economic Assistance Program (STEAP) allocation as a “strong investment” into Oxford’s recreational programs and facilities, which, with the new funding, will be able to further its vision in providing adequate services and improve the quality of life for the park’s visitors. Labriola and Kane worked with state government leaders to ensure the funding returned to their district.

“From ball fields to recreational open space areas, Tetlak Park will be a hub of activity to Oxford residents and visitors from surrounding towns,” Labriola said. “The project’s goal is within reach now because of this investment. Families, children and athletes alike can expect to enjoy all the park will have to offer.”

“We want to do all we can to help improve the quality of life in Oxford and throughout Connecticut,” Sen. Kane said.  “We want Tetlak Park to be a magnet for area families to enjoy the outdoors, and this funding is a big step in the right direction.  We appreciate the state’s support.”

The STEAP funding, directed through the State Bond Commission, is overseen by the Office of Policy and Management and funds economic development, community conservation and quality of life projects for localities that are ineligible to receive Urban Action bonds.
