HARTFORD – House Republican Leader Themis Klarides today announced the 2017-2019 legislative committee assignments and caucus leadership positions for the Republican Greater Waterbury delegation of State Representatives David K. Labriola (R-131), Tony D’Amelio (R-71), Rosa C. Rebimbas (R-70), Rob Sampson (R-80), Eric Berthel (R-68) and Stephanie Cummings (R-74).

Representative Labriola retains his role as Whip and will serve on the Government Administration and Elections (GAE), Judiciary and Transportation Committees.

“I look forward to a productive session where the most important issues facing the state can be addressed in a responsible manner,” Rep. Labriola said. “I appreciate the opportunity to continue representing the people of Naugatuck, Oxford and Southbury.”

Representative Rebimbas has been promoted to the position of caucus Whip and will join Whips D’Amelio and Labriola in helping to shape public policy, assisting fellow Republican lawmakers and making sure Republican House members are in attendance to cast their votes on legislative issues.  Rep. Rebimbas will continue as Ranking Member of the powerful Judiciary Committee, and serve on the Government Administration and Elections (GAE) Committee.

“I am honored Representative Klarides entrusted me with another important role within the leadership of the caucus and I look forward to once again working across the aisle to help the people of Naugatuck and the state to bring the budget under control and preserve vital services for the most needy residents,” Rep. Rebimbas said.

Representative-elect Stephanie Cummings will begin her first two-year term representing the 74th General Assembly District, which includes the East End and East Mountain sections of Waterbury, by serving on the legislature’s Judiciary, Government Administration and Elections (GAE) and Public Health Committees.

“I’m excited to begin serving the residents of the East End and East Mountain on the state level and proud to serve on committees that have such an important impact on the quality of life for those in our state who have been struggling for too long,” Rep.-elect Cummings said. “I am ready and willing to roll up my sleeves and get to work on the difficult issues to make Connecticut a more affordable place to live and raise a family.”

Representative D’Amelio will continue in his role as Senior Whip and serve on the General Law and Aging Committees.

“As each legislative session begins I feel a renewed sense of commitment and duty to the people of Waterbury and Middlebury and look forward to getting back to Hartford to work on their behalf,” Rep. D’Amelio said. “I’m proud they put their faith in me to be their voice at the Capitol.”

Representative Sampson will serve on the Government Administration and Elections (GAE), Judiciary and Insurance Committees.

“The state is once again in a difficult fiscal position and facing another massive budget deficit but I am committed to fighting for responsible legislative solutions that don’t raise taxes and allow businesses to grow, thrive and put Connecticut residents back to work,” Rep. Sampson said.

Representative Berthel will serve on the Insurance (RM), Finance and Banking Committees.

“Every new session brings distinct issues and concerns for the people of Watertown and Woodbury and I am honored to be their voice at the Capitol,” Rep. Berthel said. “I will continue to reach out to my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to pass legislation that helps Connecticut continue being the great place it is to live, work and raise a family.”
