Senator Martin and Representative Hoxha Announce $1.7 Million in Funding for Plymouth Community Revitalization

HARTFORD, CT — Today, Senator Henri Martin (R-Bristol) and Representative Joe Hoxha (R-Bristol) are thrilled to announce the allocation of $1.7 million in funding for the pre-development planning for the rehabilitation and revitalization of the Terryville section of Plymouth. This significant investment, secured through the Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) and included on the Community Investment Fund’s (CIF) Sept. 24 meeting agenda, sets the stage for the transformation of the Downtown area into a vibrant community hub.
The initiative aims to enhance the quality of life for residents, particularly those living near South Main Street, Agney Avenue, and Main Street in Terryville. This is a major step forward, as the state’s bonding commission will need to give final approval.
The comprehensive Downtown Transformational Plan includes repaving and streetscape enhancements, installation of underground utilities, and beautification projects. Key landmarks, such as the former Eagle Lock site and the East and West Gateways, will undergo significant improvements. The project also focuses on policy changes to attract private investment, modernize zoning regulations, and stimulate economic development.
Representative Hoxha said, “By investing in Plymouth’s infrastructure and community spaces, we are laying the groundwork for a more prosperous future. This project will not only improve our town’s visual appeal but also stimulate job growth and attract new businesses, benefiting both residents and visitors.”
Senator Martin stated, “This funding marks a monumental step towards revitalizing our community by transforming our Downtown into a place of pride and opportunity. We are committed to creating an environment that fosters economic growth and enhances the quality of life for all Plymouth residents.”
The project promises measurable community impacts, such as increased property values, higher employment rates, and a surge in downtown engagement. Continuous public outreach and community support are pivotal in prioritizing the initiatives essential for Plymouth’s economic transformation.
