BRISTOL – Rep. Joe Hoxha, R-Bristol, recently visited several area schools as a guest reader for Read Across America week where he helped promote literacy and the joy of reading among students.
Rep. Hoxha visited Stafford Elementary School in Bristol where he read, “The Girl Who Never Made Mistakes,” by Mark Pett to Mrs. Silver’s first-grade class and he had a chance to meet the famous “Cat in the Hat” as well.
“This was a great opportunity to promote literacy and encourage reading in our schools,” said Rep. Hoxha. “The students were so bright and engaged and I’m looking forward to coming back next year.”
The National Education Association launched Read Across America in 1998 as a year-round program to celebrate reading. Dr. Seuss’ birthday is on March 2 and was declared Read Across America Day, which kicks off Read Across America Week and Read Across America Month.
