Rep. Foncello Testifies In Support of Veterans’ Benefits Bill

Posted on March 8, 2024

Hartford, Conn. – During the March 7, 2024, meeting of the Committee on Veterans’ and Military Affairs, Rep. Martin Foncello (R-107) testified in support of HB 5402 An Act Excluding From Veterans’ Income Calculations Certain Benefits Payments for Purposes of Eligibility for Certain State and Municipal Programs.

“As a Veteran, I often hear from others who feel our state does not do all that it can to help our Veterans. Many feel that they are being overlooked and forgotten for their contributions not only to our state but to our Country as well. The thing I hear often, is that it would be most helpful if Connecticut would exclude Veterans’ federal benefits from being considered income when determining eligibility for state and municipal benefits programs,” said Foncello.

Foncello also suggested that Connecticut should exempt a Veteran’s military pension and Veterans’ disability benefit income from the personal income tax.

“Implementing these two aspects would be a tremendous help to our Veterans, many who would qualify for these programs if their Veterans benefits were not considered income,” said Foncello.

Foncello introduced a similar bill this session, HB 5132, to exempt a veteran’s military pension and veterans’ disability benefit income from the personal income tax.
