State Representative Martin Foncello (R-107) hosted a successful Food Drive to help in-need neighbors in Brookfield ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.
"I want to thank everyone who donated. The outpouring of support was heartwarming. I'm so happy to live in such a generous community with neighbors willing to help neighbors," said Rep. Foncello.
Rep. Foncello collected several cartloads of groceries in a three-hour midday food drive conducted outside the Brookfield Big Y World Class Market on Saturday, November 8. The food was then donated to the Brookfield Food Pantry, located within the town's Department of Social Services at Brookfield Town Hall.
"Food insecurity became a more pressing issue during the pandemic when people lost their jobs and when meals weren't readily available for students in schools and we saw that jump in need during the federal government shutdown," said Foncello.
Rep. Foncello has hosted similar collections earlier in the year in Bethel and last holiday season in Newtown to benefit Walnut Hill Community Church Food Pantry and FAITH Food Pantry.
Nearly $100 in cash was also donated to Brookfield Food Pantry.
"Even though SNAP benefits have been distributed, the need for groceries and other goods has not diminished in our communities. This is especially true as we head toward the holidays when food typically is a centerpiece of family gatherings," noted Foncello.
Rep. Foncello encouraged the community to continue to donate to local food pantries if they have the means to do so. A list of local organizations serving the Brookfield, Bethel and Newtown communities can be found on his website, RepFoncello.com.
