Hartford—State Representative Martin Foncello (R-107) voted in opposition to the $51 billion, two-year budget proposal before the Appropriations Committee on Tuesday.
“This document is still a work in progress, and I believe there is more work to be done on the spending plan. I want to see how the final budget will impact Brookfield, Bethel, and Newtown before I can vote in support of it,” said Foncello.
Foncello also expressed disappointment that an allocation was not made for the Danbury Charter School, while three other pending charters were funded in the document. Foncello supported an amendment offered by his colleague, Rep. Rachel Chaleski (R-138) to fund the Danbury Charter School over the course of the next two years.
“During the public hearing process, we heard hundreds of Danbury residents speak on behalf of this school, we could hear the passion in the voices of the parents who were here. I support their desire to give their children the education they want them to have, in the venue they want their children to be educated in,” said Foncello.
The budget deadline is June 7.
