    Marty proudly served as an Army Officer for 28 years, retiring in 2002 as a Lieutenant Colonel. His military career spanned three wartime eras:  Vietnam, the First Gulf War and the current War on Terror and includes service in all three components of the Army: Active, Reserve and National Guard.

    For most of his military career, Marty served as a Military Intelligence (MI) Officer in positions such as Deputy G-2 of a National Guard Infantry Division, Commander of a Reserve MI Battalion, which he stood up, and Executive Officer of a Reserve MI Detachment affiliated with Yale University.

    Concurrent with his Reserve military career, Marty served in civilian life in several capacities.  He taught Statistics and Business Decision Making as an adjunct faculty member at several local universities including Western Connecticut State University, founded, and served as the President of the Greenridge Tax District and Water Company which provided water to 270 homes in Brookfield and Newtown and served as a member of Brookfield’s Economic Development Commission.

    In 1999, Marty was elected First Selectman of the Town of Brookfield.  He served in this capacity for two terms.  While serving as First Selectman, Marty was called to active duty with the Army in Washington, DC, following the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

    Following his tenure as First Selectman, Marty served as a Senior Intelligence Officer with the newly created Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Office of Intelligence and Analysis.  For over 14 years, Marty worked in New York City as a liaison to the NYPD, FDNY and Office of Emergency Management.  He also worked closely with members of the private sector as well as his colleagues from the Intelligence Community and from the DHS component agencies located in NYC.

    Marty has also provided service to his community in other capacities including as a former Little League coach & Scout Leader, and as a member of the Brookfield Rotary Club, where he served as its President for one year. He is currently a member of the Knights of Columbus where he has attained 4th degree rank and a member of American Legion Post 202 in Newtown.

    Marty received both his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, and his Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Boston College.

    Marty and his family have lived in Brookfield for 39 years.  His wife Mary Ann has worked as a teacher and Assistant Principal at Immaculate High School.  Their son, Martin, a graduate of Brookfield’s elementary schools, currently works as an attorney for a company in New York City.
