Committees Reaching Deadlines to Vote on Bill Proposals

The Education Committee is considering a bill proposal called An Act Concerning Aspiring Educators. I asked questions at our meeting about the program.
The Government Administration and Elections Committee also held a meeting recently to consider proposals to refer for further consideration by other committees or the full House or Senate.
One of the proposals would allow for curbside voting at polling places to assist electors with disabilities.
One proposal before us stems from the constitutional amendment voted on by residents in November to allow no excuse absentee voting. This proposed bill would remove the statutory restrictions on eligibility for absentee voting. I did have questions about if this makes other changes around absentee ballots.
I raised a question about another bill, because state agencies currently should have this as a best practice. The proposal would prohibit state agency contracts for the licensing of software applications that can’t be used on the state agency’s chosen hardware.
The Appropriations Committee met to go over projected budget deficiencies in Fiscal Year 2025. A number of agency and department leaders attended a hearing to talk about where state finances stand. I asked a few questions to Major General Francis Evon, the Adjutant General of the Connecticut National Guard.
