During a moving Tuesday night ceremony under a large tent at the Lyman Orchard Golf Club, Middlefield’s Vietnam and Vietnam-era Veterans were honored and thanked for their service to the country by Lieutenant Governor Bysiewicz, Veteran’s Affairs Deputy Commissioner Joseph Danao II, State Rep. Craig Fishbein, State Sen. Jan Hochadel, and First Selectman Robert Yamartino.

The nearly two-hour event began with the National Anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance, and featured brief remarks from the elected officials before Lieutenant Governor Bysiewicz carried a microphone around for several of the veterans to tell their stories and talk about their experiences.

Following the veterans’ incredible conversations and remembrances, the officials presented each veteran with a lapel pin and certificate thanking them and noting their heroic service.

Most especially, it gave him the opportunity to say “WELCOME HOME!” to these fine men and women.
