State Rep. Craig Fishbein met with executives, shop foremen, and workers during an incredible tour of Ulbrich Stainless Steel and Specialty Metals Inc., on Dudley Ave in Wallingford.

According to the company, Ulbrich Stainless Steels & Special Metals, Inc. is a precision re-roller and distributor of precision metals used in the medical, automotive, and aerospace industries. With 11 locations in five countries across North America, Asia and Europe, they’re a global business that maintains a small-town feel. They have been in business since Fred Ulbrich Sr. began a scrap metal reselling business in 1924.

Rep. Fishbein’s tour touched on each aspect of work handled at the Wallingford location, including metallurgic and material testing, rolling, slitting, sales, and more. During the tour, they also discussed the range of operations at Ulbrich’s other facilities in North Haven, South Carolina, California, Canada, and Austria.

Safety is a top priority for the company and Rep. Fishbein was provided with safety glasses and cut-resistant arm sleeves before they stepped onto the shop floor. Unfortunately, due to the proprietary nature of their business and some of the the machinery used, photographs were not permitted inside the facility.

The Ulbrich company has been an integral part of the Wallingford community for a century providing both employment opportunities and philanthropic donations to dozens of organizations, projects and events.
