State Awards STEAP Grants to Cheshire, Wallingford

State Representative Craig Fishbein (R-90) and State Senator Len Fasano (R-34) today announced that the State has awarded Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP) grants to Cheshire and Wallingford.

Cheshire is slated to receive $128,205 in state funding for the renovation and replacement of sidewalks at Curve Hill Road. The town will provide $121,750 in additional funding for the project.

Wallingford is also scheduled to receive $128,205 in state funding, to be used for improvements and the expansion of the North Cherry Street parking lot. The town will cover the additional $165,000 cost.

“These grants will help defray the high cost of important community safety upgrades and I’m pleased our money is being returned to the community for the use and benefit of our residents,” Rep. Fishbein said. “Smart use of taxpayer money, including investments in infrastructure, always pays large dividends, and safer streets and increased community involvement will be distinct benefits for Cheshire and Wallingford.”

“I want to thank all those who worked together to make sure the needs of our local constituents are being heard,” State Senator Len Fasano said. “The pandemic has created unprecedented challenges for our towns and local economies. I am glad to see a portion of this investment in modernization and infrastructure going to these hard-working communities.”

By law, STEAP grants can only be used for capital projects, such as new construction or expansion, renovation or replacement for an existing facility or facilities. The grants are coordinated by the Connecticut Office of Policy and Management.
