Minutes before they both took to the mud-covered obstacle course, State Representative Craig Fishbein presented an official state citation from the entire Wallingford delegation to this year’s Gaylord Gauntlet featured adaptive athlete, Anthony Picchione.
Picchione, who was injured in a motorcycle crash, joined hundreds of athletes who were preparing to face mud, fire and even a zip line on the Gauntlet course, which according to the website is, “a blend of wooden trail and open field running with 24 natural and manmade obstacles.”
Unlike last year, the weather was beautiful with bright sun and warm temperatures for all of the athletes.
