For more than two hours Tuesday evening, State Representative Craig Fishbein and State Senator Len Fasano, along with State Reps. Mushinsky and Linehan, held an open discussion and answered questions from more than 60 constituents in Wallingford and surrounding towns on issues related to state government. The forum, one of several hosted by the Republican lawmakers in the district, is a way for them to listen and learn directly about the issues affecting Wallingford residents.

The 2017 legislative session ended without a state budget in place and talk about the current $5.1 billion deficit dominated the conversation.  Many constituents voiced their concerns about potential cuts to state services for children, the disabled and elderly. The impact the budget deficit will have on local and state property and sales taxes, as well as fees, were also a large part of the conversation. Rep. Fishbein stressed his disappointment in the legislature’s majority party leadership for not bringing a budget up for a vote and their dismissal of a fully vetted, no-tax-increase budget plan released by House Republicans. Details of the House Republican plan can be found at: https://www.cthousegop.com/budget/

Other topics of discussion included, energy and the Millstone nuclear power plant, the possible legalization of recreational marijuana and illegal immigration, among others.
