Rep. Fishbein Hosts Wallingford Gas Tax Rally!

Drivers on Route 5 in Wallingford Friday evening beeped their horns and shouted encouragement to State Reps. Craig Fishbein, Dave Yaccarino, State Sen. Cicarella, and dozens of concerned taxpayers who held a gas tax rally at the Mobil station at the intersection of the Wilbur Cross Parkway.
The group was organized in strong opposition to a proposed new gas/food tax that will be implemented as a revenue mechanism to fund the Transportation and Climate Initiative (TCI).
The TCI program is allegedly designed to achieve a zero-carbon environment through a series of stark policy changes and mandated caps on Connecticut suppliers, ultimately driving up the prices you pay at the pumps.
The Environment Committee addressed this bill a few weeks ago, where it passed in a party-line vote of 21-11. Rep. Fishbein voted no then and remains committed against this new tax today. This is yet another tax levied on an industry that will be passed on to the hardworking people who depend on their vehicles to get to school, work and to see their family members, he said. If the legislation were to pass as written, residents can expect to see an increase of as much as 26 cents per gallon. This regressive tax would hit Connecticut’s working class the hardest.
