Rep. Fishbein Completes Gauntlet in Time to Cheer for Wallingford’s Greg Whitehouse

Joining hundreds of competitors and dedicated volunteers who chose to spend a beautiful early summer day running across fields, crawling through mud and climbing over man-made barriers and natural obstacles, Rep. Fishbein finished another Gaylord Gauntlet 5K, the annual obstacle run to raise money for Gaylord Specialty Healthcare.
An avid runner and fitness enthusiast, Rep. Fishbein has completed several Gauntlet challenges and was able to finish his own challenge just minutes before helping to send off this year’s featured adaptive athlete, Wallingford’s Greg Whitehouse, with a chorus of cheers and applause.
Whitehouse, a Gaylord patient as recently as six months ago, ran the race with members of the support team who helped him recover from the auto-immune disease Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) which is believed to have been triggered by a Covid-19 infection. Months of intensive therapy allowed him to join his team on the starting line as 2019’s featured adaptive athlete Jay Ross joined the crowd to cheer him on.
“Gaylord gave me hope at every turn and encouraged me to focus on what I could do instead of my limitations,” Whitehouse said in a statement prior to the start of the race. “Now that I’ve made it through GBS, the Gauntlet is a challenge I’m not afraid of.”
