New & Gently Used Book Drive to Benefit Hartford and Bridgeport Juvenile Detention Centers

New & Gently Used Book Drive to Benefit Hartford and Bridgeport Juvenile Detention Centers

The House Majority Leader, State Representative Jason Rojas, recently put out a request to help increase the library at the Hartford and Bridgeport Juvenile Detention Centers by donating new or gently used books that are appropriate for young adults.

As an avid reader and the Ranking Member on the legislature’s Judiciary Committee, I thought this was a great idea and immediately began thinking of titles to donate.   Reading and literacy are paramount to education, and providing access to appropriate material can help turn lives around.

If you would like to donate

Currently, the facilities are looking for both fiction and nonfiction of all topics and genres, contemporary books are preferred but classics with modern relevance are also welcome. If you have books sitting on your shelves that you or your children have finished reading and are looking to give away, please consider donating them. Please no antique books, textbooks or encyclopedias.

If you have any questions about suitability, don’t worry, the books will all be reviewed before they are placed in the library.

If you are able to donate, books can be dropped off at either Rep. Rojas’ or my Hartford office in the Legislative Office Building located at 300 Capitol Ave. in Hartford.
