State Representatives Lezlye Zupkus (R-89) and Craig Fishbein (R-90), and State Senator Joe Markley (R-16) congratulated two Cheshire High School students for their hard work and for earning scholarships to help offset the cost of their continued education.

Cheshire High School students Jensen Bassett and Neal Dellostritto were each awarded $2,000 from Cox Communications during the annual presentation of the Cox Scholarships at the Capitol. Each year, eight students are presented with scholarships.

“Congratulations to Jensen and Neal for receiving the Cox Communications scholarship,” said Rep. Zupkus. “Jensen and Neal are outstanding young adults, who have shown their commitment to the town of Cheshire by spending their time helping others in our community. These two gentlemen have bright futures ahead of them, and I want to personally thank them for their service to our community.”

“I want to offer my sincere congratulations to Jensen and Neal for their hard work and dedication to furthering their education,” said Rep. Fishbein.  “The scholarship money they earned will help offset some college costs and allow them to continue to excel in the classroom where I know they will accomplish great things.”

Sen. Markley said,  “These scholarships will help Jensen and Neal pursue their dreams.  We congratulate them and wish them the best of luck. We also thank everyone at Cox Communications for their continued generosity and community involvement.”

The 2017 Cox Scholarship recipients are:

    Nelson Robles                   Maloney High School

    Jensen Bassett                   Cheshire High School

    Neal Dellostritto                Cheshire High School

    Janine Bushey                    Somers High School

Timothy James Gamble     Somers High School

    Allison Madrazo                Newington High School

Enuma Mokel                    South Windsor High School

Joseph C. Howell               South Windsor High School

The $2,000 Cox Scholarships have been awarded to eight students per year for more than a decade.

This year, more than 25 students applied. According to a spokesman from Cox Communication, applications are evaluated for academic excellence, community involvement and the students’ desire to pursue a degree in communications, telecommunications, technology or engineering.
