    Dear Friends and Neighbors,

In 2021, the legislature adopted a controversial highway use tax on trucks that’s levied according to weight and miles traveled on Connecticut roadways. It went into effect at the start of this year. I opposed the bill then contending the tax would lead to higher prices on everyday services and goods such as groceries. Truckers who are targets of the tax – including small businesses throughout our region – had to make their first payments to the state on Feb. 28. We should have data on that revenue soon.

This year, I co-sponsored legislation to repeal the tax (HB-5290), and recently joined my House Republican colleagues to petition to have the Finance Committee hold a public hearing on our proposal after committee leadership refused to take up our bill.

The truth of the matter is the ‘Truck Tax’ isn’t really a tax on trucks, it’s a tax on Connecticut families. Every single product we buy or consume will cost more due to this burdensome tax. I look forward to a full public hearing on its possible repeal so the people of the 90th district and the rest of state can have their voices heard.

    Public Hearing – Friday, March 10th at 2 p.m.

    Participate In-person: Legislative Office Building, Room 2E, 2 p.m.
