This year, Public Act 19-36, An Act Increasing the Property Tax Abatement for Certain First Responders, increased the maximum property tax abatement municipalities may, by ordinance, provide to certain active and retired volunteer emergency personnel, including firefighters.
The measure became effective July 1st.
If you, or someone you know, is an active or retired volunteer emergency responder or firefighter, please consider reaching out to your local town officials to see if this abatement might be considered by the municipality.
Raising the property tax abatement is the least that we can do to honor the brave men and women that voluntarily put themselves in harm’s way to keep us safe.
