Last Friday, Attorney General William Tong came to Wallingford to join State Representative Craig Fishbein, State Rep. Liz Linehan, State Senator Paul Cicarella, Masonicare Administrator Kim Magalhes and Masonicare Coordinator Heather Sheppard, for an Elder Justice Forum at Masonicare at Ashlar Village.

During the more than hour-long presentation and question and answer period, AG Tong and the panelists discussed ways to stay safe online, including how to recognize and avoid common scams like the “romance scam” and the “injured child” scam.  They also highlighted the AG’s Elder Justice Hotline and provided printed handouts for each attendee.

     About the Elder Justice Hotline

Launched in June 2021 in partnership with Elder Justice Coalition, the hotline provides Connecticut’s elderly, and their families, with an easy and effective tool to lodge complaints or connect with appropriate resources to meet their needs. The hotline is staffed by the OAG Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.

Individuals are encouraged to call when they are, or suspect they are:

    • The victim of fraud
    • Received messages demanding payments and aren’t sure where it’s from
    • When you are a loved one are a victim of abuse or neglect
    • When you are a loved one needs help accessing benefits or assistance

    Elder Justice Hotline – 1-860-808-5555

    Alternate Numbers to Call:

    • IF AN EMERGENCY – Call 911
    • Department of Social Services Protective Services for the Elderly – 1-888-385-4225
      • After Hours or State Holidays – 211
