    Friends and Neighbors,

The CT Department of Labor sent the following information regarding the processing of unemployment benefit claims:

The new federal unemployment benefits programs have triggered increased criminal attacks against labor departments across the country. In an ongoing attempt to prevent fraud in Connecticut’s unemployment system, the CT Department of Labor is implementing important changes to how we disburse unemployment benefits. This may result in newly-approved applicants receiving the following message when they select a method of payment:

“At this time, CTDOL does not work with all banking institutions. Our system will not accept this routing number. Please enter a routing number from a different bank or select the debit card option for payment.”

Claimants will then have the option of selecting a Key Bank debit card or adding the account number of a different bank.

This change will help CTDOL protect the integrity of the system. Unemployment claimants who currently have a Key Bank debit card on which they receive their weekly unemployment benefits will not be impacted.
